We had a blast giving our parklet a facelift, and we think our bright new bench is a step toward our goal of giving a new face to lower Lawrenceville. A queer face. A face that reflects our community - your community! Sanctuary’s ambition is to lift marginalized voices and foster a safe space for our LGBTQ+ community. We hope to be part of the change we want to see, and to create a safe and inviting place, metaphorically and literally, for our neighbors to enjoy.
We’re proud of who we are and how far we’ve come, and we want to celebrate with the community that we love. This pride month is going to be a welcome bright spot for the LGBTQ+ community, and we want to bring the energy, respect, and excitement we know it deserves. June of 2020 should have been the 50th anniversary celebration of the first Gay Pride March, so we’re going to crank the pride up to 11 this year and make up for what we’ve missed.
Sanctuary Pittsburgh will be hosting a vendor fair for local artists and artisans who identify as LGBTQ+ to market their wares in the parklet on Butler, across the street from Sanctuary Pittsburgh. We want this event to be a celebration of Pittsburgh’s queer community, and a chance to shine a light on that community’s artists and entrepreneurs. We are currently looking for artists and artisans who identify as LGBTQ+ to celebrate pride with us at our Out and Proud Market on June 12th.
This event is a celebration of artists and artisans who identify as LGBTQ+. If you are an ally of our community, know that we could never do this without you. We hope you’ll show your support by attending, and help us to celebrate our queer vendors!
