FAQ
Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions about booking, our artists, and general information about tattooing in our studio. Please reach out to us at info@sanctuarypittsburgh.com if you have additional questions.
What's your minimum?
A minimum is the least amount of money an artist will charge for a tattoo. This typically covers everything that can be tattooed in an hour or less. Our artists don't have a one-size-fits all price. Minimums range from $80-$200 depending on the artists skill, experience, and hourly rate.
You can email an artist directly or call/text the shop to ask about hourly rates, deposits, and pricing. Artist emails are listed here!
When do books open?
Books open when an artist feels they can take on more clients or custom requests. Not every artist closes their books, it's a preference for some! You can check their Instagram bio for that information and typically our artists also include it in their email auto reply.

Do you tattoo minors?
We do not tattoo minors, even with parental consent. You can book an appointment prior to your 18th birthday but the appointment must fall on or after your birthday.
Example: Your 18th birthday is February 29th. You reach out to an artist February 2nd to schedule a tattoo appointment for the 29th.
Do you have space for a guest artist?
We do! We host guest artists throughout the year from PA, out of state, and even out of the country. If you're interested in a visit with us, reach out via email to info@sanctuarypittsburgh.com.
What is the best way to book a tattoo?
You can use our inquiry form or email the artist directly! All artist emails are listed in their About page here. When you email, make sure to include size, placement on the body, reference pictures, your pronouns, and general availability for appointments.
If you're not sure who would be a good fit for you, fill out the inquiry form and we will forward it to someone who would be best for the style/subject matter of your reference pictures.
Can I bring friends to my appointment?
Please limit yourself to only one guest! We love our space as the cozy studio it is. We want to keep everyone comfortable and relaxed so one guest only is allowed per appointment.
Do you offer piercings?
We do not offer piercings right now! If you call or text the shop we can recommend a piercer in the area.
Can I use numbing cream before I get tattooed at your studio?
We want you to be as comfortable as possible when you're getting tattooed - however there are risks associated with using numbing products. Some artists will prefer that you do not use any numbing cream, others prefer to use only certain brands that they trust. Ask your artist before applying any numbing cream ahead of coming to your appointment. For more information about the use of numbing agents visit this article from the FDA concerning possible risks.
Do you allow children in your studio?
We do ask that you refrain from bringing children under the age of 18 into our tattoo studio. We are an adult environment and therefore are not suitable for children.
